About

Creativity and art making have been central to Jane's working life, ranging from horticulture and hospitality, to art teacher and art therapist.

Being able to now share her fascination for all things art, especially the amazing variety of  materials and techniques available, supporting clients to empower themselves,  through expressing something of their story, without words, yet so succinctly, in the art making process  inspires Jane.

Art Therapy is a multi faceted tool, and can empower clients to explore, heal, express, and learn.

I'm fascinated about the possibilities of  art therapy, and how it can support people at the different stages of their lives, to gain insight and perspective, personal growth and healing.

I value the space in which we can be heard and not judged, to remain curious and open, to feel safe, as the art making unfolds.

I graduated in August 2018, with an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Art therapy from the Ikon Institute Australia.

My job as an art therapist is to create a safe space, within which to witness the client in a supported art making process. Metaphors and stories can emerge, leading to alternative perspectives and possibilities.

The use of art making  has been used by humans, across cultures and time, throughout history.

Art making, can be used for healing, communication, relaxation, having fun, finding flow and telling stories.

I am based within the Onkaparinga Council area, and I'm happy to travel with my mobile art therapy pack.

what is art therapy?

What is

art therapy?

Art therapy is a process, of articulating  in the art, something that might otherwise be difficult with words.

The art making process, utilises specific  art materials and techniques that resonate with the client and the problem they bring to therapy.

The importance is on the 'process' rather than the end result of the session.

What are the benefits?

The benefits can include: clarity and insight, feeling heard, stress reduction, shifting perspective, learning to cope differently with challenging situations, confidence, creative problem solving, communication and self awareness.

What does an art therapy session look like?

An art therapy session is designed and catered specifically to the individual client.

An initial consultation stage,  leads into an art making process, which we then review and discuss.

My client led sessions run for between 60 and 90 minutes, in which time the therapist will support the client to work towards their goals.

What art therapy isn't

Art therapy isn't about creating a finished piece of art or masterpiece, nor is it an 'Art' class.

Importantly an art therapist can't interpret the art that is created.

How art therapy can help?

Art therapy can support people with a broad spectrum of goals, needs and experiences,  including: personal growth, self awareness, organisation,  problem solving, ADHD, ASD, stress, anxiety and depression, anger, life transitions, grief and loss, relationships, addictions and attachment.
